Beit Kaplan’s MISSION

Beit Kaplan, an organization of rabbis and rabbinical students, is dedicated to advancing the values of Judaism as the evolving religious civilization of the Jewish people. We emphasize Ahavat Yisrael: the centrality of our peoplehood, and the abiding, loving relationship between the Jews and Israel.
We are a Reconstructionist voice, finding profound meaning in the religious practices of our ancestors, the teachings of Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan and his philosophical heirs, and thoughtful, disciplined incorporation of contemporary values into Jewish life. We treasure the interplay between Jewish tradition, science, and modern thought, and the importance of tzedakah u’mishpat (justice, righteousness, and clear boundaries).
Beit Kaplan upholds the centrality of Zionism - the commitment to the State of Israel as the historic and contemporary homeland of the Jews - and peoplehood, to the purpose and practice of Judaism. We advocate for traditional Jewish thought and practice, and for democratic ideals, academic inquiry, artistic creativity, and scientific discovery.
Our objectives include providing learning and fellowship opportunities for our members, providing Jewish education and being accessible and supportive to the public, establishing a network of affiliated congregations, and advancing the concept of progressive Zionism.
